I was able to do much of what they do using this wonderfully free piece of software. Sony SoundForge is a decent product if you buy the high dollar version - but again, more than we need and will use for a lot more money. I use a mixture of audio hijack Pro, Amadeus Pro, and GarageBand to produce my podcasts. There are three programs that I would recommend for this sort of thing: Adobe Audition, Sony Sound Forge and GoldWave. I'd be glad to help you out if you can't figure out how to do something (as I'm sure most of the people on this forum are). I don't find any benefit to recording above 16 bit / 44,100.
