I managed to overclock my AMD barton 3200+ @2200mhz, to 2310mhz (running it at 210 fsb, without raising the core voltage). The fan may fail, but the passive part of it buys you some time.
Fry's already has me on their red list :-D There are ways around it, but I would rather not.
